Anyone have a monster tank with small fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have about 20 black skirt tetras in a 6 ft tank and its great to watch the school move across. my friend was trying to get me to buy a custom 14 ft tank and fill it with loads of tetras, but i told him that would be retarded

I prefer large schools of nano fish to few large fish, and have spent years
trying various fish schools to nail down exactly what I'll get for my 125g.
Hopefully this forum will help me adjust to years of many small 30g tanks
to one monstertank, and not the monsterfish ;)

here's a 30gal breeder I did a few years ago. everything is scaled
down so much that it give the illusion of a monster sized tank, so
imagine what variety of scape I can fit in a tank 4 times bigger :naughty:

Anywayz, I think the o.p. was hypothecially asking about monster tanks with large quantities of schooling fish. Not for his personal tanks.
Exactly. I was just wondering for the future. I'd love to see some photos of large tanks with large schools of small fish.

acctualy i was thinking of doing that on my 180 gal but heavily stocking it with plants and neon tetras and other small fish but im still not sure so lets see if anyone post pics to see if it makes me take the leap
That's what I was thinking basically. The more and more I think about it I'm going to do it. But it will be about two years from now. Until then I'll keep on eye out for what others have going too.

a large tank with a gang of schooling fish would look like this:

cardinals

[YT]3mpddRdaxQg[/YT]

tank is 10 feet long.

Tropeus small, exotic and variates you can breed in you comunitary tematic tank

I would love to figure out a tank that can house a complete biotope (might be the wrong word....ecosystem maybe). Essentially pick an area (amazon, congo river, african lakes etc etc) and stock the full gamut of fish. Everything from your tetra sized minis to your ornate bichirs, snakeheads, pacus whatever. Have enough room & natural setup in the tank that the little fish breed fast enough to be a REAL food source for the larger & the larger fish breed into natural selection.

I think that would be ****ing SWEET...albeit unreasonable :p

I bought a 150 before for the soul intention of keeping lots of cool shcooling fish in it. had about 300 neons in it. And realized i love big fish to much. And it was a waste of a good large tank atleast to me. And i got rid of those fish. and redisnged it. I do love to c large tanks with small fish. It is a actually home and aqua space. And a reel feel. Instead of stuffing as many large fish in it as we can possible fit as more of a holding tank them a home as we all do.

I saw something like that. It was a pier that went out to a near shore reef then the you walked down below water level to look at the fish. So basically the fish were keeping people in a tank. :nilly:
