I'm sinking a 180 in the ground, and was wondering:

1. If I were to make 5gal bucket filters, how many should I need?

2. What size pump would I need?

3. How should I run the intake/output into the pond? It's 72in.x24in.x24in..

Why?

1) 1-3 buckets depending on the bio-load.

2) 3x turnover = 600gph pump

3) Bulkheads just below the surface edge or over the edge and paint the pipes with Krylon Fusion paint (you can hide the pipes with plants and return with some type of waterfall to aerate the water).

Don't forget to take pix to share ;),

Sorry, my question was why are you sinking a tank into the ground? Most people use tanks for show and containers they can't see thru as ponds.

Ok, to the question of why: I picked up this acrylic tank for free, it's foggy, and has some defects. It holds water well, but, I can't really see through it, and it needs support on the outside. Don't want to risk a blow out in my living room.:nilly::WHOA: So, I'm turning it into a "water feature" by my front porch.:D

I was thinking two buckets. I'm just kind of stumped when it comes to how to attach the filtration, where/how to place the intake etc. The out put is no problem, that can go anywhere lol. I was thinking about putting the intake at the opposite end of the outflow to maximize filtration/circulation in this thing. I've never done a pond before, so I figure this is a good start. :naughty:

Oh, and yes, pics will follow :)

Cool, free is good. Now I understand, look forward to seeing ongoing project.

Yes, free is always good. She was tryin to make $50 on it, lol. I had to explain to her that in it's condition, it would never work in a house. Not to mention that I had to cover the drilled holes and a crack in the bottom with acrylic peices for it to hold water. If it was clear and sound, my ck's and oscars would have a new home. :)

If you can hide the pipes, I'd just run them in the top with the pump in the 'pond' (put a course filter around pump inlet so it doesn't clog) and gravity flow back to the 'pond'. solves the bulkhead problems.

I was thinking that.

Have the buckets on the outside, heavy duty pump in pond, pump water out into the buckets, and let it flow back in off a water fall or something. I'd just need to keep the pump close to the side where it can be easily reached
