I feel like if somebody gets bit its because they weren't paying attention or it was a abnormal situation. If I put my hand in the tank they run to the other side. I swear if I were to jump in the tank they would all jump out.

Over the past 20+ years I've been bitten only 3-4x only once by RBP's all the rest Rhombeus. Worst one got my finger tip - lil' sucker - but it grew back.

piranhas are nowhere near as aggresive as the media has made them to be id be much more worried about placing my hand in a tank with an oscar than one with piranhas piranhas are naturaly very shy.... oscars less so
LOL i know how you feel.............
P's will shred you if you put your hand in the tank like it's a dying bird at least thats what im lead to believe, in the amazon the elderly are the ones who should be worried and the sick.............but thats second hand info.

Are you a lizard? Humans don't regenerate.

I have had many RBPs and have never been bit. I take my time when cleaning the tank and make sure to watch them closely.

guy at my LFS had a little scar on his finger from a bite. but, he admitted that it was because he kinda had the RBP trapped in a corner...

Yeah anytime I go near a tank with piranha they scatter, now I used to let my Oscars bite my fingers when they were little, they draw blood now so now more of that. But I wouldn't be too worried about piranha.

Kinda funny timing here, My rhom has always been super timid before, but yesterday when I was trying to put some new plants in he was not. At first he wouldnt move, I kept poking him and he just sat there, then when I chased him over to the other side of the tank with an algea scrubber he kept charging at my arm like he was going to bite it then stopping just short and would back up and charge me again. He never actually hit me or nipped me, but he was definetly more gutsy then he has ever been before. Lately him and my cat have been fighting alot thru the glass, I think it is getting his courage up. He actually taunts the cat thru the glass if the cat is ignoring him. Glad his personality is finally coming out after 3 years.
