Anyone have big tanks on high floors?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have 220 on second flor. (Concrete) Never have any problem.
But i know 1 guy who had broke concrete flor and everything + tank and sump crash. Tank was 264 gal ! But was placed on the middle of the room.
Sadly he quit hobby (repair money)
My opinion
Call structural engineer and you will sleep in peace ! ! !

i have a 220 on the 4th floor plus my fish room i feel safe its more leaks and cracks iworry about

I have already peeled a bit of carpet up and it is indeed concrete. My room is on the corner of the building and the tank would be going in the corner where both of the outside walls come together. The stairs and outside walk are all concrete as well. And the stand does run across the whole floor instead of being on legs.

Sounds good. I'd do it.

If you're still not sure, ask your landlord, (or superintendent, custodian, maintenance guy, whatever) he may know alot about the building. Like maybe how thick the concrete is or whatever.

Take a peek into some of the common areas of the building hallways and stairwells usually arent finished as nice as the units, it'll give you a better idea how its put together

I was putting a tank/sump system in my kitchen on the first floor. Only about 120g though. I talked to my landlord, he told me which direction the joists ran and how they were spaced and pointed out some good spots, he had experience with former tenants and experience with real monster tanks in apartments.

I had no idea how the floor was constructed because of the ceiling on finished basement downstairs. I'm glad I asked him
