The LFS is ordering me some. I was wondering. Most websites said this fish is sensative to water conditions. Is this true? Do they die easily if there is ammonia in the water?
Anyone have experience with the Spotted Pike Characin, Boulengerella maculata?

These fish are wild caught and not currently bred in aquaria. And as well as all other wild caught species they are more sensative to ammonia,nitrite.
But off topic imo, If you have a situation where you have ammonia present in your tank the last thing you need is a fish.
If this is a established tank then you have a problem and need to address it. If this is a new tank you need to look into cycling the tank before adding fish. If this is the case do a general internet search on FISHLESS CYCLE. And follow the neccasary steps to cycle your tank and make it ready for fish.

Yes, I know about my water quality. And my tank has no ammonia or nitrite and it is cycled. I just asked if this fish is sensative. I dont want a senstive fish like other people dont want a sensative fish.

You ask a question about if a fish is sensitive to ammonia. Well any fish keeper should know that ammonia can kill any fish.

Yea, thanks for derailing my thread so I would not get any replies from people who actually owned this fish before or have this fish. For your information, I been keeping fishes since I was a 5 year old kid. And it has been 15-16 years so far. So yea, I must be ignorant and you are the fish god.

And for your information, from the experiece I have, I stay away from sensative fish. You on the other hand, would take the challenge and keep sensative fish that would die really easily. Wow, I admire you.

Some fishes can survie a tank cycle with all the ammonia and nitrites, so I am not listening to your advice.

If your tank is not cycled, do not get it.
If your tank has ammonia do not get it.
A friend of mine had one and it lived for a long time.

. I always do my water changes on time and the tank is cycled, so I can't really answer your question. What I can tell you is that you should have a tank at least 72x18 without any spiky driftwood since it's a skidish fish..... it takes alot of time and patience to get this fish off live feeders. Also it's a very peaceful fish so keeping him with aggressive tank mates is a bad idea. Datnoides, geos and catfish (not RTC or TSN) make good companions. Hope this helps.
