As you can see in my avatar, I'm a proud owner :headbang2. I always do my water changes on time and the tank is cycled, so I can't really answer your question. What I can tell you is that you should have a tank at least 72x18 without any spiky driftwood since it's a skidish fish..... it takes alot of time and patience to get this fish off live feeders. Also it's a very peaceful fish so keeping him with aggressive tank mates is a bad idea. Datnoides, geos and catfish (not RTC or TSN) make good companions. Hope this helps.

Did you own the fish for a long time?

wow...you ask for advice and it was given.
how would anyone on here know if you had fish since 5?
advice was given take it or not thats your problem.
but no need to be a jackass.
and yes, many of us on here do keep SENSITIVE fishes.
and many of us keep them alive for very long.

Let me give you some advice on what the internet says about this fish. Here it goes from a professional source. Not like you who call people a jackass behind a computer, very professional of you:

"None of the pike characins are “easy fish” and the spotted pike-characin is no exception. It needs a large, mature aquarium with excellent filtration and frequent water changes must be carried out to ensure that the nitrate levels are kept low. Soft, slightly acidic water is preferred, and likely essential to long-term success. Certainly, very hard and alkaline water should be avoided."

Wow, you must follow water quality like a pro. I can tell by how you call people a jack ass. I would probably go with the internet info rather than the info here in my opinion.

that info can be applied to basically all monster fish in the hobby.;)
i'll tell you this much,im not realy bothered by the quality of the water in my tank,i just follow simple guidelines.of my OWN.
and ive never had a boulengerella die on me because of water issues or disease.

well looks like you know everything.

Some people around here have been keeping sensative species for as long as you have been alive.;)

And by the way you are in the characin section. Most of the fish in here are considered sensative.
