Like i said in my intro post i am looking at upgrading my 125 to a 200-300 gallon tank. I want to stay away from acrylic. Me and my wife have a kid on the way and our dog like to jump and im afraid an acrylic tank will get damaged to easily.
This 280 is what im looking at. Actual gallons claims 222 but a calculator says 239 actual gallons. Thats not the concern. Would the standard 1/2 inch glass be sufficient on this tank or should i up grade it to the 3/4 inch? Also we have a concrete foundation home. The weight shouldnt be a problem right? If anyone has experience with this company or if anyone has suggestions id love to hear. Thanks

1/2" glass should be sufficient depending on height...but it wouldn't hurt to upgrade to 3/4"....but it will be even more heavy...like 6-8 guys heavy....
An acrylic tank will be much stronger and lighter....true, scratches are a concern but unlike glass, which can and will scratch, acrylic can be polished.

Looks like it can get pretty expensive once you start adding things up....and it doesn't come with glass tops....boo...bad form!
Have you priced acrylic in the same gallon capacity?
Are you going to drill the tank or use canisters or overflow?

Honestly, I'd go acrylic. I was afraid having a child and a dog that it may get scratched up, but after quite some time I only have one exterior scratch though very minor. Yes acrylic scratches easier, but if it was that bad, public aquariums would never be able to use it with the traffic they get... if you decide to go glass I would always err on the side with any tank, so go thicker imo.

I absolutely hate acrylic, Ive owned them and wont own them again. That said I just ordered my glass tank from custom aquariums and was extremely happy with the product. I ordered the 8ft 300g. I went with 5/8" glass on all sides and 3/4" on the bottom. The best thing is to contact them with any questions you have. Realize too that these are custom made so they do not have these just sitting around. I ordered in July and was warned they were 12 weeks out. this was not a problem for me since my house was being remodeled at the time. sure enough it took the full 12 weeks.

So here is what you can expect:

Well packaged!

So some words of advice, yes it is HEAVY and you will need to test some friendships... lol
I had EIGHT friends help me move this in.

The suctions cups do help A LOT! Either buy some or rent them from Custom Aquairums.
It really made the move so much easier.

Dont try and use the online calculator, it just is not up to date and you are better off calling and dealing with Mike.

Please PM me if you have any other questions, I was very happy with these guys!
