I am very curious to see what will happen to FB if they started to charge a monthly fee. I bet my $$ it will not survive. There are video chat sites, Myspace, skype, and other forums to replace social network such as FB. they would open a new window of opportunity for a new startup.

facebook wouldn't need to charge per user, each user is worth 56 dollers...I believe thats the latest stat, i could be wrong. They make enough money to keep the company running.
