I have a LIma that is about 5." He has had a pretty slow growth rate because he does not eat a whole lot. He only eats the frozen food I put in the tank which is bloodworms, krill, and silversides. I like to try and feed New Life Spectrum Pellets and Massivore Pellets to my fish most of the time. The Lima is just not interested in the pellets. Since this species becomes more "outgoing" when they get bigger, is it likely he will eventually eat pellets? I have read that this is not really a scavenging catfish, so is it safe to assume that he is not scavenging for pellets after lights out?

I don't think they're particularly "greedy" like other cats, but mine definitely gets its share. It took a little while to get mine to eat pellets, but it was easier than most of my fish. I've tried Hikari Sinking Carnivore and Omega One Shrimp Pellets and it eats those, but I think I tried some cheapo shrimp pellets and it didn't eat them. I would venture to say, especially with the other fish in there, that it will take the pellets pretty soon.

i had one of mine since it was little (bout 5in) and after about 2 months it would eat hikari floating koi pellets (he loves them) and would also eat any flake food without problem. the new lima has so far only eaten nightcrawlers but i just got him and it was already 12in and used to feeders.

Mine inhales HBH super cichlid sinkers. I got him when he was about 15: and was eating feeders. I just starved him until he started taking pellets and now he eats them like crazy

my lima will eat any thing he can get including pellets and he is about 7"

IMO there are at least two subspecies of Lima's, one grows much faster and is much thicker while the other grows relatively slow and doesn't eat as much. I had two different one's and one grew fast to 10" and the other is barely 7". One would eat like crazy and stuff his gut the other barely would eat.
