I was in Petco yesterday and there was a filter I hadn't seen before which caught my eye. It looked to be different than every other canister filter ever produced. I just looked at their website and must say I really appreciate some of the concepts they incorporated into the filter.

I really like their engineering to make a canister like filter that is easy to change! I also like their modular approach to expanding the filter for additional capacity!

I wasn't impressed with their emphasis on chemical filtration. :-( The video makes the filter look like a little toy instead of a real filter. I couldn't figure out what the star shaped things they were replacing in the video were. I also really wasn't impressed with the in-tank pump... but maybe an external pump might be used instead.

I just thought I would share. I appreciate that someone is trying to come out with something more than just another bucket with tubes... and ease of maintenance has long been one of my complaints regarding canister filters.

Looks cheap to me...

looks like they might be onto something. i really like the handle idea, seems like it would be easier than my fluval 405. i wonder if the quality of filtration would be as good as the higher ends such as eheim and fluval.

it seems like a cheaper lower quailty less advanced G series. However I love the handle also

i agree it seeps like a "sunsun" kind of think with thin plastic and whatnot but maybe its quality is pretty good. we wont know until someone tries one out and posts it on mfk :naughty:

When I first saw it on the shelf at Petco I figured it was a SunSun branded by Petco. But the second glance said this was something different.

I am not about ready to go out and buy one BUT I really hope it makes the big name manufactures sit up and take notice!!!!! I think the handle / removable cartridge feature is the best part of the filter. The expansion option is a close second. Everyone seems to think that canisters need to be made bigger... I think they need to be made easier to maintain!!!! I am glad a manufacture has finally agreed!

I could see a few of these packed with filter floss on the return line from my sump!!!!

This product is actually Petco's own design. They teamed up with API and made this to be sold exclusively at their store. The filter itself seems really gimmicky and lower in quality. The cambers don't allow customization of media. On top of that, there's a whole debate as to whether or not adding "expansion" units on the stock pump will increase flow without any extra upgrades.

Seem like a great idea. Those little star things are the biomedia. I don't know why they showed them being thrown away, unless they are trying to just sell more product. I did not like how it diverted intake to both chambers then back out(is the purpose of one chamber only supposed to handle 50% of the filtering needs). I am sure they did it to slow the flow to enable bio to operate, I just find it odd.

I think I just may pick one up. Like the design except if that if a hose comes loose you are pumping water on the floor. But that can be the case with any canister filter. I have a 55g goldfish tank that is going to need a filter. What the heck, will give it a try. Worse case scenario I take it back and get a fluval

The pump residing in the tank was what turned me off. Sure it doesn't need priming but I only have to prime my canisters when I first set them up or after a cleaning. For the other 3-4 months priming is a non-issue. Having a pump in tank is annoying and not worth the convenience of no priming. Plus the whole point of a canister is media choices, this one seems to force you to use just their media.
