Anyone heard of Nexx filters?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The pump residing in the tank was what turned me off. Sure it doesn't need priming but I only have to prime my canisters when I first set them up or after a cleaning. For the other 3-4 months priming is a non-issue. Having a pump in tank is annoying and not worth the convenience of no priming. Plus the whole point of a canister is media choices, this one seems to force you to use just their media.

I don't think I have ever bought a filter that said "use anybodies media that you want"! With the clever people on this site I bet someone will find a way to improve upon the media options.

Will keep all posted on this thread. I have a friend that can get me on for around $60 because he works at Petco. If he will I am going to give it a try. The in tank pump is not a turn off for me. It can be hidden by greenery or driftwood. Thinking it could even go into an overflow box too as long as the flow will keep up with the pump. I don't see a problem with customizing the media either.

As I said, will keep everyone interested posted.

Well my Eheims and nearly all the other canisters I have looked at use trays or baskets that you can put whatever you want in them. From the pictures/video of the Nexx there is only one small tray and the rest of the filtration is provided by those bags of carbon which leave little ability to customize it.

I can see how those with limited imagination might feel constrained by such limitations but this is MFK! :grinno:

I look forwards to your impressions John.

Looks more gimmicky then anything else.

Six is right, A little ingenuity can go a long way. Maybe I can wiggle with the media, maybe not, we will see.

This I have to agree with, but on the off chance it is just the evolution of the canister filter, I am in. What the heck if I can get one for $60 it is worth the try. Worse case scenario I can alter it into a power vac.
