I'm curious to know who keeps these amazing animals?

I'm a Huge Fan of them i fish for them too.

I wanna Know who keeps them in there aquariums ! how are they to keep ? what tank mates you have them with ? ( any that lived ... lol )

Have you got any Pic's also post them here pic's are always welcomed !!

I keep esox americanus (grass pickerel). Essentially the same animal just smaller. I can tell you right now that he is my favorite fish. The only downfall to him is that it is tough to have tankmates with him...He is a loner as of now... :(

Ummm...I would say that he is pretty active. Not really in the scence that he is always on the move and searching for food but he is always out in the open and will follow me around the tank. He especially goes crazy when he starts getting food into him lol. He is not a boring fish thats for sure. Its not like owning a wolffish where they just sit there but it isn't quite like a oscar or jag or something like that is. They tend to just patrol all day. He patrols a bit but not really a territorial fish. It is actually a bit difficult to explain I guess. But I deffinatly enjoy keeping him and don't mind having a single specimen tank.

I could probably direct you toward some people who may have them right now and if not can surley get you one in the spring/summer.

i briefly kept one for a friend, they eat things bigger than most people would expect, they are lightning fast, they grow faster than pretty much any non catfish species i've kept and irritatingly enough they can be bullied by determined fish so watch for fish chasing them around.

great fish but they get too damn big for my tanks...i'm holding out for grass piks..this summer :)

Oh yea I forgot that part too. They do not deffend them selves. I lost one because it was being bullied by a LMB. They just take it from other fish and die...:(

HI DAN
Years ago I worked in LFS and went through a crazy spell of keeping any oddball I could get my hands on. I managed to catch a tiny 6" Pike whilst fishing the local river with a bait net. Kept in a 3' tank on its own. Not really active but not shy too. I fed it river shrimp and eventually lancefish. It had nice markings. Released it when it hit 10" mark.
I also had a 13" Jack Pike which I kept in our garden pond. My Dad made me release it too-the pond got covered in the summer with duckweed, you couldn't see the water at all. Mum was sat by the pond one afternoon and stroking her hand through the water surface getting the duckweed. BANG the thing launched and bit her. That was it
Bear in mind these were my lunacy years-I kept a Wels too in a 4' tankwhich grew to 24". An amazing fish with an unending appetite. You live & learn I guess and now I'm conservative with my fish species.

PS Perch are cool too-kept one briefly last summer which I caught with my eldest. Markings depend on their habitat.

think they just keep themselves suspended a lot of the time, as opposed to continuous swimming. I havent heard of people keeping the UK pike. Would be cool though, love those fish, and have often wondered your question too.
