Most of my family lives in Oden, or if you know lakes, Crooked Lake. I spend most of my summers and winters up there, and I'll be the first to tell you, it gets cold. Pellston got to -27 a few nights ago. But as far as the UP goes, we are about 20 miles from the bridge. If you have an questions about the area, I would be more than happy to answer them Michigan is my second home, I love it up there.

does anyone live in the UP that can tell me some good (and bad) things about it

Great for nature, and if you are into fly fishing/hunting. Lots of snow in the winter and very cold. Mild summers. Not super heavy on population, but once you get into the Mackinac city area it gets a bit busier, and its pronounced MACKINAW not MACKINACK as most people say. Mackinac you're off track, Mackinaw it's the law. Cheesy I know, but it drives on locals. If you ski or snowboard you've got the best places in the midwest. Nubs Nob in Harbor Springs, which is on the lower side of the state, about 40 minutes from the bridge, and Serchmont in the UP, mostly glades, and all natural snow, means pow, and lots of it. Don't mess with Boyne though, that's where all the pretty people go, and they generally suck. That's all I can really come up with for right now, PM me if you have any further questions.

I live in the U.P., and like our friend from Gwinn I also don't inbreed, although thanks for the stereotype.

For that matter, all people from downstate are "city folk" who are afraid of trees and probably deal drugs. Haha. Joking aside, if you want any info on the Western Half of the Upper Peninsula, I can probably answer it, as I was born, raised, and still live here.

I also agree that the LFS suck for the most part. I have found a couple of so-so ones but I have also lived in short stints on the Wisconsin coast of Lake Michigan and the LFS there have sucked as well, so maybe it's just something that happens to people that don't live in NY or CA.

They are a pain, I actually have a son that is allergic to the mosquitoes! We have to carry a epi-pen around. Just thinking of us makes me itch. Some people the mosquitoe is the state bird instead of the robin cause there is so many. We have bitting flies too.

i grew up on ki sawer till the airforce closed it then we moved to harvey 10 min from marquette great place would move back in a hartbeat if i could. i hate wi cold for no reason atleast in the up when its cold you get snow wi its just cold.......
