Anyone here tried using suction cups to anchor driftwoods?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the danger here is that suction cups can let go for whatever reason, and if the wood is still buoyant, the wood could rocket to the top of the tank and crack either glass from the tank or damage your hood/lights. you are better off looking into "curing" the wood or attaching it to slate or some other rock. i would NOT trust my tank in the hands of suction cups..... they don't even have hands

That was one of my worries but I have six suction cups sticking to the tank bottom at 3 different points. I should've drilled holes in the wood to help the water cure into the middle of the wood faster. Problem here is I don't have a 5ft container I can fill with water to soak the wood. Using the bath tub isn't an option cuz the old lady doesn't like it. This is an 8lbs piece of driftwoods so hopefully it's ok.

Ya, the piece of driftwood was soaked in water for two weeks before going into the tank. Unfortunately, I don't have a 4 1/2 ft trash can so I was able to soak only 3 1/2 ft at a time. I even scrubbed with daily with a wire brush to get all the sludge out.

Knowda, thanks for the link. Only problem with those magnet clips is I'm afraid the clips might pop out.

It's impossible for the clips to pop out of the magnetic base as they are threaded into the bases (like a screw). The clips are also almost impossible to break (I've tried!). Also, since the bases have female threads you can screw anything into them with the same diameter and thread pitch.

Knowda, sweet! I didn't know those were screw on clips. I'll be looking forward to getting some of those. Are they usually available all over the place or just that one store you linked me?

The "store" I gave you the link for is actually the manufacturer! Go on their website and use their store locator. Dr's Foster and Smith also carries some of their stuff as does PetSmart and Petco. Glad I could help.

why didn't you just buy sinking bogwood instead of floating bogwood
All bogwood will sink but requires time. When you buy wood you need to soak to let it sink. Some pieces take longer than other to sink. You never know if the wood will sink or not until you bring it home from the store.
