Anyone here used soil substrates?

i used soil in my little planted 20 with great results. just be careful not to disturbed it and you water will be fine the plants love it

What did you top it off with? I have pretty fine sand from the beach.

I use soil in my 180 and 65. I cover the soil with a small grain gravel and try not to uproot plants if I can help it. I keep a bucket of surplus gravel around, in case I do need to uproot something, to cover up the hole left behind.

i use aquarium soil and florite. Works pretty well. Although i like the soil and sand combo!

I use a slightly more expensive "soil" as my base...2 bags of AquaSoil purchased from the ADG website. ($28 per bag) I have that capped with 2 bags of Fluorite. I have a lot of root hungry plants and they seem to love it.

I'm going to go with potting soil, but all natural meaning no fungicide and what not. All this when i get another tank to plant.
