Looks like a painted lady. Pre-cloacal tail length is short, and fore claws are short too. Some turtles become darker as they age; it's more common in sliders, but I've seen it in paints as well.

View attachment 368378since i have the two yearlings.. i found last year as hatchlings.. i did not even think of keeping this one... but since i have two boys.. i quess it would have been a good idea.. but i rather see them free.. i only have these because they were dime size out of eggs..
 
I'd also say this is a female painted turtle. A very dirty and dark colored one ;-)
 
yes i was wondering why it did not have a pattern on the shell and very little color.. thats why i was not sure.. my boys are so colorful.. but maybe she is old... and maybe there are eggs around..
