Anyone ID this turtle..

Just saw this one in my yard... of course i had to take the pics fast.. is it male or female paint.. perhaps my twin paints mama?? wonder why the shell is so plain.. could it have just dug out from hybernation.. will it color up later.. or is it some other species?View attachment 368355

Looks like a painted lady. Pre-cloacal tail length is short, and fore claws are short too. Some turtles become darker as they age; it's more common in sliders, but I've seen it in paints as well.

View attachment 368378since i have the two yearlings.. i found last year as hatchlings.. i did not even think of keeping this one... but since i have two boys.. i quess it would have been a good idea.. but i rather see them free.. i only have these because they were dime size out of eggs..

I'd also say this is a female painted turtle. A very dirty and dark colored one ;-)

yes i was wondering why it did not have a pattern on the shell and very little color.. thats why i was not sure.. my boys are so colorful.. but maybe she is old... and maybe there are eggs around..
