Yes, my trade is computer geek, I'm a Linux Developer, so I have a lot of coding background, now, I'm just mocking up something, but I have to see it people would actually buy it or even want it if I just got paid for materials.

If I build a certain piece of hardware, I could make music to how your fish are moving around the tank. Not like 'ding ding dong'... but more ambient music that is 'created', but more triggered, by the fish. So, as the fish trigger a certain combination of light (most likely invisible) it would actually mix a song. Going to be very basic, but I think with time, every fish tank that had one would have a 'fish song' that is VERY unique to the tank.

Does this sound interesting to anyone? I've already sorted out how to do it, but need minor tweaking and to figure out which trigger would do what sounds.

very interesting concept. I wonder if each tank would have a consistant sound

Well, this isn't going to be just a junk setup. It'll actually be running off of ubuntu or fbsd. So that you can customize it fully, and I have an audio guy who will be creating different themes and tracks for it;) We're also looking at a lighting system that works off the same idea, so that when a fish swims under the light it turns on an led or a very non-obtrusive light, just enough to show the fish. All of this will use very little energy and I'll try to make them easy to setup. I'm still exploring how to mount them, so if anyone has any ideas about them I'd love the input.

The first hard copy will take a couple of weeks to create, and the first one will just have a series of beeps and boops to test it, then we'll create a default track for it.

Should be a very interesting project!

Not really... well, in my field not really:) I figure about $60-$100 once all is said and done per unit.

definitely interested in seeing it happen, I'd need to see it work before deciding if I'd want one myself

Oh, don't you guys worry, this entire project will be documented, this isn't for profit, so all the plans and everything will be completely opensrc, only thing I request if I build it... is the money for the materials and the shipping costs.

If I don't have to build it and you use my plans, but you modify it or the software to improve it, I'd just ask that you share that with the world.... OpenSRC is the way to be.

But ya, I'll have videos and site up for the project so everyone can watch and see it fully operational.

Just an FYI, if you live in Calgary, I can automate just about anything you want... so if you want something custom fabricated or have any ideas for projects you'd like to see, this goes for anyone, then feel free to contact me. I'm completely open for new ideas and creating new things. But don't go saying you want a fish tank that follows you to work... altho... if there was a small ball mounted on... *thinks*... hmmm, naw, would rock too much, you'd kill the fish... dang. What was I talking about? er... *blonde moment* what ever, if you have ideas, send them, I'll be glad to look them over!!!
