Anyone into kung fu movies??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ok, the best way to start is by stopping at Walmart, for $10 or $15 you'll get his complete works EXCEPT Enter the Dragon. A lot of people consider Enter the Dragon his best work, but it's still a great deal. It even includes Game of Death, the movie he was making when he died. (I think they should have abandoned the film because they did a horrible job piecing the movie together.) I think the collection is called Bruce Lee Ultimate Collection.

So I just got done watching Game of Death last night, which takes me through all of them on Netflix Instant (I'm gonna have to wait a while for Return of the Dragon to come in the mail, but I know I've seen parts of it). I really enjoyed how you can see his style (and acting) develop through watching them in (semi) chronological order. The filler-scenes in Game of Death were REALLY painful, I felt like the guy looked nothing like Bruce Lee (face or build), and acted/fought with very different style... BUT, I did appreciate still being able to see the footage that they had taken of Bruce Lee fighting, it would have been a real shame to lose those scenes, so it kind of balanced out for me.

Fist (singular) of Fury, this is the one where he fights the japanese (this is the movie where bruce is shot in the face witha real bullet that was supposed to be a blank, he was shot in the face)
you know what's weird as hell dude?

i thought bruce lee got shot during filming of Fist of Fury. i swear i seen a documentary. but i did a search and nothing comes up

it was while shooting the ending scene. bruce lee runs and does a flying kick toward the japanese officers and they fire and the frame freezes and the movie ends leaving you to assume that he was executed. but he gets shot by a real bullet that was supposed to be a blank. which is why there's so much mystery around his son's shooting accident also
now i'm starting to question whether what i always known is legit. i guess it isn't since it would be well documented.

Sumo, don't knock yourself too hard. It did happen... kinda... it was just actually a scene in Game of Death. They patched the Fist of Fury scene (where he does the flying kick at the police) into the Game of Death story-line and added someone slipping a real bullet into the prop-gun and shooting him in the face. It does make it REALLY weird that Brandon Lee died under similar circumstances (albeit probably not intentional).

oh, so it really didn't happen? it was part of the story? I'll look up game of death movie and see if they mention that in the story line. it's weird since i saw the incident in a documentary as if it actually happened

In Game of Death it was part of the story, and it was played by the replacement (aside from the original Fist of Fury footage)... So I don't think it happened, but I didn't research it at all.

ok, i just read through the game of death movie story line

the original plot of game of death was different from the plot in the game of death movie that was actually released after his death. in the released version, billy lo, played by bruce was a martial arts actor who the bad guys wanted to syndicate his movies or whatever it was. when he refused, they wanted him dead to set an example so they go to one of the sets and shoot him like you stated. and that's where they used the footage from fist of fury and he gets shot in the face.

i'm a little embarrassed as a bruce lee fan to think after all this time that he had an actual real on set accident. game of death is his only movie that i have not seen since i was a kid so this is where i got the mix up from. thanks maxx for the clear up. if not for you i would've continued on thinking he got shot in real life

There is a scene in Game of Death where Bruce's master askes Bruce a question that Bruce doesn't know the answer to. The fake Bruce Lee says,
"I don't know" and raises his hands while shrugging his shoulders. I couldn't believe they let that slide. I mean Homer Simpson wouldn't have answered a question like that, that was almost disrespectful to Bruce I thought.

While we're on the subject. I like the one inch punch demonstration at 2:14.

Its ok Sumo, its only the second time I've been disappointed in you... and last time you were posting fuzzy bunnies.

I Just read the original plot of Game of Death on wiki, WOW! Man, it made me so sad that he did not live to finish it.

Yeah, that was TERRIBLE... but still, I'd put up with it to see Bruce Lee getting up off the ground with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's huge foot-print across his chest...

That was a cool compilation. For dedication, athletic ability, and showmanship: I think Tony Jaa is the only Martial Arts Star to come close to Bruce Lee, I'm always impressed when I see him in action... Check out the kick at 3 mins:

Tony's only flaw (according to me) is his complete dedication to Muay Thai, from reading Bruce Lee's book and watching him in action I'm increasingly convinced by his dedication to no style.

Good clip, never heard of Jaa making such an appearance. If that basketball would have gone into the basket that would have made for one helluva ending to the show.

Sweet find! definately let us know what you think! Btw, does the box say it's the 4th Ip Man movie? I think I saw it labeled Ip Man 4 somewhere.
How's the book Maxx??
I wanted to find a Wang Lung tribute, I didn't find one, but I did find this scene with Ling Xiaoyu. I think ladys with this much skill are soo hott!!
