Im planning on moving my bichirs to my s65 with some clown loaches and a few catfish and was wondering if I can keep a Mbu puffer with them.

Does anyone keep this combo together?

I know that puffers are aggro but the Mbu seems to be the only one that some people have no trouble keeping in a community.

Thanks for any info or advice.

You're gonna need a waaaaaay bigger tank than 65g for a mbu.

BIGGER!!!

bigger is better, but its best to keep the 2 species apart

ugh...its a 265, not s65. sorry.

A 3 incher is available and the growth rate of a Mbu up to 12 inches is 2+ yrs...then it takes up to 6+ yrs to get to 20+...which at that point Id be willing to give him the tank and move the bichirs to 180g.

Its not the tank size I was worried about, more the aggression to slow movers in the tank...so it sounds like the 2 wont mix more than likely.

Thanks!

Did you read those links? 265 isn't nearly big enough. I also don't think you've got that growth rate quite right, they grow large fast!

I keep a 5" mbu that eats like a pig, but grows really slow. He is the most docile fish that I have, a down right sissy. He is alone now, because all of my fish picked on him and stole his special diet food. He doesn't know how to defend himself and unleash the puffer terror! The only time I have seen him aggressive was with live crayfish. He just tore them apart!

Also, had him with tiny senegals and ornates. They just swam, wiggled, and perched right on him. They treated him like an ottoman! They even snatched chunks of clam straight from his mouth as he chewed! Honestly, I believe he thinks he is a goldfish and not an mbu.
