Yea...I read those links last week when I was researching the fish.
While I agree "if" we could keep fish in their ideal situations, everyone would love a 10' tank, its just not happening...probably with 99.9% of fishkeepers.
Dovii get as big, arowana get as big, bichirs get as big etc etc etc and I have yet to see more than a select few that keep them in anything bigger than a 180 or so, let alone a 265...especially as a solo fish.
The way I look at it is that hes gonna go to someone and I can almost guarantee you he wouldnt be going to a tank as big as mine that gets 50% water changes weekly, has a 55g sump and gets fed fresh shrimp, worms, crayfish etc. on a regular basis.
Please dont mistake my views as trying to start an argument/ debate or blowing off the advice given...it couldnt be further from it. More than anything, I just wouldnt want it going to someone with a 75g already overstocked, which will probably be the outcome.
I also spoke with several people that have kept them and 2 online retailers about their growth rate. Thats where I came up with the growth rate info on them.
Thanks again for all the advice. More than likely Ill pass on him, simply because Id like to wait until I move up to a 450g or so and I dont feel like losing a bichir to it if it does freak out and go aggro on them.
They are beautiful fish, thats for sure.
