im getting a 3" african aro on friday. im just wondering if anyone has had luck in keeping them. they are hard to get to start feeding, i know because my lfs got 5 in before and they all died in a short time. im hopeing to get one of them my self to try.
any advice?

i think iheartfishies has some?
she may be able to help you

Keep it with a constant supply of food... My girlfriends two died.. within two days.. and mine was eating and healthy for a week and then i noticed a few spots of ick and moved him into a tank with a baby channa.. he died in that tank a few days later.. i think a bare bottom tank and constant supply of food for them to sift thru will get the job done... I moved him from the original tank because I have a 5" Tigrinus Catfish growing out in that tank... good luck

there tuff mine lasted 2 weeks

Try frozen bloodworms, frozen brine, or frozen mysis shrimp, several times a day. Once African arows grow past 4-5 inches, they become very hardy. I have two, 12" and 18", that eat anything!

my lfs dixon.

cheers ichtyophile. im hopeing to keep the aro in my 8ft tank in a large mesh box till its large and strong enough to be let loose with the other fish in the tank.

Just make sure it has surface access, as Heterotis are limited air-breathers and regularly gulp air from the surface.

i wouldn't min an african aro, but im woried about feeding it, will it compete for food or need a tank to itself
