Anyone Keep BGK's With Their Rays?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I keep mine with rays with no problem. However, years ago (an some of you may remember) I had a small hystrix mysteriously get a chunk missing out of her disc. The knife was the only thing that could have done it...though it was a rarer species knife that I can't even remember the name of...but very close to a bgk.

They can sometimes be territorial but with all the space you have, you shouldn't have a problem.

could be an aba aba - they are really aggressive. BGK are modest and calm specie - im more afraid for them to get eaten rather than causing harm to the ray.

On the other hand it could be BGK..mine is quite aggresive when someone invades her spot under the root..did some minor damage to bichir but could also bite pretty badly..

I had a 14' BGK with my two retics before it was eaten by my temensis. He always had trouble eating, would go a couple weeks without eating, but one day he got pissed off and started stealing food from absolutely everyone, ramming his head into anything so it dropped the food. The aggression came out of nowhere. Needless to say it really spooked my retics when he stole food from them, but should not be a problem for full size rays. Can't comment on whether the rays will be a problem for BGK though, theyre kinda dopey but can book it if they need to, id say it depends how strong it is to swim away if its being cloaked by the ray.

I have one BGK in with four WC 7" disc hystrix. BGK is a little longer than the hystrix, it's bold as brass at feeding time and regularly goes right under the rays to take worms from them - has no trouble feeding at all
