ok so does anyone keep horny toads? i have been finding care sheets online. went and looked on the fish and wildlife websites, and they are no longer an endangered species in arizona, utah, california...at least i think so. i know they are no longer endangered here in utah:headbang2. so does anyone keep them? i am thinking of getting one.:screwy::D

Its a ridiculously hard to keep lizard, in case you don't know. Most come in screwed as it is, to raise a healthy one is a pita (thank you, MFK), and to raise a sick, weak one is just hell. Even zoo's have been known to kill em' without the right amount of research.

HAHAHAHA  That was my first thought!!

They sell them here in Wa, and I used to keep them when I lived in southern California as a kid. No idea they were considered difficult animals.

So...what happened to yours? Horny toads= horned lizards, correct?

Well, we were just dumb white trash back then, so I let them go when we moved. :( Had one for years, though. I like how they squirt blood out of their eyes.

Husbandry is no different than a Chuckwalla, Collard/Leopard Lizards, or Desert Iguanas......

They'll eat Crickets, and if you're paranoid about the ant deal ( which they can live without ), all you have to do is give your Crickets access to white Vinegar........

I've seen about 150 this season, and all were perfect, and the people I know that I keep in touch with have all done well with them........I find any Desert Lizard hard to kill in all honesty......

And Zoos.......They kill off ALOT of stuff.......I know, I've sold some things to some......

My friend has one - he orders ants for it off the internet. It's fun to watch them eat them as opposed to crickets in my opinion. I'm sure given proper space, food and heat/lights the animals wouldn't be hard to keep at all - same as any other reptile :)
