anyone keep horny toads?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
oh i know how to care for them. got it all set up. and i have seen them and kept a few for a week. they where just fine, tank was around 95 and they where eating ants from me like no other. loved em too, so spunky and spikey! they remind me of tiny bearded dragons. also great idead with giving the crickets a little white vinegar. i will give em a little in their water cubes. well i will post some pix of the setup and when i get them, if i can find them, the horned lizards. also i have kept chuckawalla and collared, and canyon lizards, they are all from the same area as horny toads and other then diet need the same things. my chuckawalla would go into a sort of shutdown mode if his tank was bellow like 97 F. also the same with the collared and canyon, below 93 and they would shut down.

Husbandry is no different than a Chuckwalla, Collard/Leopard Lizards, or Desert Iguanas......

They'll eat Crickets, and if you're paranoid about the ant deal ( which they can live without ), all you have to do is give your Crickets access to white Vinegar........

I've seen about 150 this season, and all were perfect, and the people I know that I keep in touch with have all done well with them........I find any Desert Lizard hard to kill in all honesty......

And Zoos.......They kill off ALOT of stuff.......I know, I've sold some things to some......

Interesting information. The stuff I've found online are extremely contradicting. But given your photo thread, and general experience, I suppose you could be right. One thing. White vinegar?

White Vinegar is very similiar to what the natural acid the Harvester Ants produce.....

ya i looked up the white vinegar thing, and if the zoos have done it with success then im gonna trust it.

I wonder who thought up the vinegar thing. They always had that hard to keep reputation, but so did chameleons for a long time. Chams, horned lizards, draco, moloch...nice to see people are having success with them.

Would still suggest you do research first. One experienced person's opinion is good, true, but it's insufficient. For example, the white vinegar may be a good trick, but its best to have some tangible research to substantiated it. If you go wrong, you just killed something (I am most certainly a peta idiot). Just saying you might want to cover off the unnecessary risks.

dude, ive been researching them for over a year now. i just started the thread to see if anyone else kept them.
