I keep a young paddle fish for the moment. He came in 3 month ago.
He is 25 cm long and I keep it in a 100 X 80 cm aquarium, just the time he gets used to floating food like Ikari etc ... For the moment he doesn't eat much because it's winter here and the temperature is between 4 and 10 C° . But he takes bloodworms and artemias without problems.
In fact, they are my favourite fishes ( see my name ! ) and I kept already four of them in my life . The biggest ones rised 75 cm.
In those times, I stayed in an appartment in town and these fishes where kept in aquariums, then in a pond 2,50 m X 1,80 m, 50 cm deep .
My first paddlefish grew very well and I kept it for one year but he jumped out of his tank.
The second one was already very sick when I rescued it ( fungus ) and I didn'nt succed to save it. He never accepted food.
And the last two ones where kept for more than two years, in the pool, becoming big, too big, and they finally crashed their head on the walls because of fear ( they are quite timid ).
Now I live in the country and with my new little one, I hope to keep it for a long time .
In the spring, he will go in a big pound of 10 m X 5 m with other sturgeons.
Paddle fishes are not easy to find.
They are Cites II listed, so it needs paper work to get them.
Some dealers in Asia can ship them .
