Anyone keep their RBP with Neons?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
don;t get me wrong when I set my RBP tank up I don;t want to try and keep plecs etc with them but the idea of a shoal of neons is appealing. Plus the link is for a large tank from Germany . Its a beautiful set up and looks like a little slice of the amazon

excellent set up. My tank will have some large bog wood in and loads of vallis

Thats my vid and I feed them pellets every day and they get shrimp/tilapia once or twice a week.
It also depends on the size of the piranha...if you have a foot long red in with a school of tetras I doubt they would get eaten...just the size difference for one and really it isn't worth the energy expended for the piranha to bother eating something so small...small p's on the other hand may enjoy the red and blue snack :P

love that vid quality set up. how are all the other fish getting on with your piranhas?

ive kept adult piranhas with large shoal of buenos aires tetras and they do fine.the tank is big and the tetras are just too fast.
ocassionally 1 gets eaten, but thats fine.

Yeah, exactly what I assumed, big beasly adult Ps. Having such a large tank helped in this situation as shoals of tetras react to each other.

I keep neon with my rbp. But anything you keep with rbp is considered food! It might live a week, a month, a year but sooner or later it will get ate!!the more rbp there are the braver the are n the less tolerants tankmates.

I posted a thread a couple weeks about this same thing. I saw a youtube video and couldn't resist trying this. I went to Petsmart and picked up 20 tetra and only have 1 left. I'm guessing that my tank is not big enuff and not planted heavily enough for them to have a chance. Good luck tho.

Just been looking on youtube and seen a lovely tank with neons and RBP's cohabiting
is this common/adviseable and does anyone do it on here?

simon
hi simon you'll find that a lot of piranha keeper like my self keep neons and small fish in havely planted tanks as piranhas are messy eaters and its not alway possible to vac all the gravel and get some small peaces of un eaten food that hides behind ur decor and u end up getting a build up of planaria. u'll find that small cichlids and neons lillte goldies will eat this paracite.
don't get me wrong u will lose a few but if u keep ur temp right you'l find that the reds are not bothering with the small fish!

hmmm this thread just taught me something ......... which make me mad because i have been in class all day (32,000 tuition) and i learn something on a website lol
good thing im on scholarship.
