Perch is the type of fish they are.

Like how koi are cyrprinds.

Lates is the genus. I believe. I always get these things mixed up. Someone correct me please if I am wrong.

nile perch from afica and barramundi (sp?) are from Aus.... they look alike to me... I'm sure somebody here know how to tell the diff...... I have some nile perch at home right now and something like 7-8 lates coming from oddballer but they really small I last told... don't know if I can see the diff....
