Anyone keeping Mosquitofish (any Gambusia spp) for as pets not as feeder fishes lol. I enjoy these fish as mini predator fish with the attitude size of monster shark. I have different strains/species of Mosquitofish.

I have a bunch in the ditch outside

I've kept them, bred them, used them as feeders...very versatile fish :)

im gona order a few hundred when i build my pond

go for at least 1000 depending on size of pond. They are great at keeping mosquitos down (duh), and can provide an inconstant but important food source for any larger fish you may have :)

Easy breeding in ponds but hard in aquarium.....wish i had big pond to let my mosquitofish breed into. Planning to getting plastic tub/liner for them next summer if the weather dont rain too much like this year.

One thing to think about is inbreeding. I have had the same fish in my ponds for three years and I have noticed I am getting some deformed fry. I went and got some more from mosquito abatement and hope that will fix the problems.

Yeah inbreeding is problem for some livebearers, especially with albino mosquitofish which i tried keep them alive but my colony of albino mosquitofish went belly up.

I had a bunch of them before scaling back..
Had about 13 populations of Gambusia Holbrooki, 7 of G. affinis and several other species. Favorites still remain G. krumholzi, G. luma and G. rhizophorae.

Very cool fish IMO...

Which are you currently working with?

Inbreeding is not a problem on these strains if you select breeders carefully and maintain your colonies for the desired trait..
