Anyone keeping Pacus?

pacus are awsome fish, and very cool in a big tank

with monster tank around here im suprised not very many keep them.

i could care less abou there color, its the way they look,there size and there grace when they swim is what counts.

I agree if you have the resources they are an awesome fish, I kept one for 5 years.Great fish actually recognized me when I walked up to the tank, wagged his tail threw water on the wall. He came to the top and I hand fed him, loved Eukanuba, apples, bananas etc. .

Thats a tough one.Your tank is not quite big enough but could be thier only chance for a halfway decent life.Id say if theyre free take them.I hate that these fish are so commonly sold.Not many are prepared to properly take care of them

This is a tough one! I would save them from the 55g. They are a pretty cool fish to have: Tame, color, character and size. But they need alot of space and a good filter system. I would compare their needs to an Oscar and a Knife Fish when it comes to Tank Size and Water-Filter Needs. I've had mine for about 13 years now, got him when he was about 3 inches and in a 10g. Now, he's in a 400 gallon and is about 12 inches. Best on Luck on which path you take!

Guys/Girls: How/Why can some LFS keep "Two one foot Pacu's" in a 55g??? I am not an out spoken person, but I would say something in a matter like this one if I ever went to one of my LFS and saw this! But all my LFS owners are "Old School" and know better on the "Keeping" of Tank Busters! Just my opinion on the situation.

Dont mix them with anything that can fit in their mouth, can be with a smaller fish for 2 monts with no prob, then one day, they decide its food. this happend yesterday with my aro, he is missing his back half...

i started w/ 4 pacus in a 75 gal tank w/ my pima... they're very graceful & friendly but they ate everything inside the tank (plants & even feeders for my pima), grew too fast (tripled in size in a matter of 3 months!) and somehow made cleaning more often so i had to put them in a pond and added about 20 more... i think they're a lot happier now in that pond..

I was recently at a friend's house whose father has been keeping fish for over 40 years. He has 2 pacus and an RTC in a 4 footer - only 18" wide. The RTC is over 2' and the pacus are at least 18".

The best part is what he feeds them...
