Anyone kept ctenopomas with any cichlids?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Convicts, firemouths, and Jack Dempseys, huh? I figured they would be too aggressive...

Goes to show how different fish can be. I would be tempted to get some more fish, but I may be consolidating my 38G into the 75. Well, most of the fish, anyways. I want to put my 55 where the 38 is (the furniture it's on is big enough) to get a coal grunter. I think aquascape might be getting some in. That is, of course, if they're not too pricey :D :(

BTW, berserker, that was a sweet leopard. Sorry you had to take him back.

I had one a couple of years ago that had a personal beef with a chocolate cichlid, but it otherwise got along well with a blue acara, severum, and some geos

I've got my cteno's with 2 firemouth cichlids and no problem there. I did have a pike cichlid(bellycrawler) but he grew fast and picked on everyone so I ended up trading the pike.

We have a leopard bush fish about 10-12cm long at work in an 8ft tank with a whole suite of Central and South American cichlids, most of which are bigger than it. Green terrors, parrots, Jack Dempseys, two red jewels (yes, I know they're from the Nile), two large Angelfish believe it or not, two red rainbows from New Guinea, a pair of large firemouths...Oddly, everything's quite peaceful in that tank and I don't think I've ever witnessed a real fight in there. Go figure, huh?

Realistically, I think it's got a bit to do with the sheer size of the tank and also the large number of large, aggressive fish in there. No one can readily develop a fixation on anyone else.
