know what they eat when theyre young or just feeders and worms and such forever?

same as fish. the basic ingredients in proper size and proportion throughout life.

Idk about the 75 degree thing. they are from mexico and here in hawaii we don't really use any chillers. i don't see how its possible either with just a tiny 1 to 2 inch deep puddle of water ontop a messy substrate like sand. i never got one also because i have noooo idea how your sapposed to put a filter on such a shallow tank, nor how to clean something like that. sounds messy and i just imagine a foul stagnant tank full of mosquito larvae, drowned lizards, a spider web and doodoo floating around... like turtle tanks..

You don't know about the 75 thing? Perhaps you should try doing some reseach? They are from two lakes in Mexico, where the water temp rarely gets over 68 degrees, and can fall to 45. Not from inch deep puddles...they are fully aquatic and don't need a shallow tank.

I kept a pair for several years, we called them "Will and Grace". Grace eventually ate Will, but lived several MORE years after that. Fed them dried tubifex cubes, brine shrimp, live katydids, etc.

i won't bother to do some research. i don't want any. lol hence the "idk about..." Every pet store I've been in has been doing a crappy job at setting the example for customers then, because they all put them in either terrariums or mouse cages, fill it with 2 inches of water and treat them like turtles. they just float around and try to moon walk in their little puddles.

Perhaps then, if you don't feel like putting any effort into it, you could withhold your completely inaccurate opinions so as not to confuse other members? Also, maybe those pet stores have "Water Dogs" instead of Axies...given your lack of knowledge, you're probably not identifying them correctly.

Hey everyone, my girlfriend's been getting into Axolotls lately and we've been looking at a couple different sites for information about them but I dunno, feels like I'm reading a care sheet printed out by petco or something, kinda shaky on trusting it. Was wondering if you guys knew anything about them since this is pretty much the largest group of fish enthusiasts out there. Thanks in advance!

u have yours yet?

not me. the stores must not identify them correctly. what i read under their tab is what they identify them as. my store sells BOTH axolotls and Water dogs. and every store i see has either creature in the same setup nomatter what it is so don't blame me that the lfs sucks. not opinions. the truth. you have no faith in the intelligence of mfkers if you think what i said would confuse them.

currently they are selling gold, albino, and basic strains of axolotls. again, they are in 2-3 inches of water, with small cylindrical filters. no chillers to keep them 75 degrees at all. hence i said the store sucks at setting the example. or did i confuse you there?

actually, try to tell me how the water can get that cold in mexico. what temperature is the surrounding air and habitat? is it high on the mountains or deep in a cave?

each and every one of them here must be in hell then. no chillers at all in the lfs. air temp is between 90-75 degrees year round. extremes at 65 to 95. mexico is hotter if anything.
