Hey guys! I recently got an XP3 cannister filter about 1.5 months ago for my 100g and it's time for me to clean this filter. Does anyone know how to take the hoses off and what I need to clean the filter. Do I need to buy some more carbon, filter sponges, and bio-media? or should I just change some of the components? Also when I put this filter back together do I have to load up the water through the siphon again like when I first set up the filter? It is a pain!!! lol. But if I have to do it I'll do it. Thanks!

read the instructions. very easy to clean....

i misplaced the instructions! lol... but i was thinking it must take forever to take all that water out of the filter! also the filter is under the tank and i want to move the filter over to the sink which is gonna be hard to carry it all the way over there. do you have to scoop all of the water out and then move it? man.. sounds like a lot of work tomorrow! lol. i figure u just take out each of the compartments and clean them and replace with new biomedia, carbon, and filter pads.

Exactly. You don't replace the bio-media. If you're gonna clean it, rinse it in tank water.

i close the intake and keep the output open for a feww seconds then i disconnect the hoses and carry my canister over to my cleaning area, there's no need to clean the hoses unless there clogged,
i would just rinse the biomedia in some tank water
throw out the carbon
spray out the mech. media
and fill the cannister up with tank water
theres no need to replace the carbon unless your looking for added effects feom the carbon, i would just add some bio in place of it.

Just be gentle so you don't snap any plastic parts. Take your time cleaning and don't rush through it.

This is what I do. The hose is quick disconnect. I squeeze and rinse all mech pads do not touch bio media. clean the inner canister. Put everything back in. Do not fill the canister with untreated water. When you connect the hoses back it will start filling up with tank water thru your output hose. Remember canister is empty of water. You will see bubbling and such. Wait till it is full then plug back in. Been doing this for 8 years. Still running strong. Of coarse your water level in tank will drop that is why I do this a day before water changes or the morning of water changes.

1 more question. How do you disengage the quick disconnect valve? do you just lift up the lever and pull the thing up until it comes out? the last thing I want to do is to pull too hard and break this thing! Thanks.
