Don't worry if he turns solid black for a while, even a couple of months. They'll often do that while adjusting to new surroundings.

This is completely true ^^^ my managuense was black for months and a lot here said it was female, turned out male watch the JD as time slips by the managuense will rule the tank they are very territorial. By far my favorite fish.

Oh, I keep my EBJD divided off from the rest of the fish. Right now he's in with a female BGJD and small red and blue Texas. My BGJD male is with the Jag and a female BGJD. He can handle himself pretty well compared to the EBJD. I'm thinking I may cut my stock down to just the EBJD, male BGJD and the Jag.
