ive had a hybrid in the past that was jet black-when he was stressed he turned light purple. also, male crabro's (bumblebees) can look black with barring..

deformed fish most likely a hybrid too maybe really bad quailty acei

hmm yeah you are right mike. i have two ps. aceis-one is a darker purple, but neither of those have any white on them. do aceis come with a white dart on the top fin?

then id say its a white finned acei with a deformed head-hes a cute little bugger.

yeah hes been doing fine, thanks

i moved some stuff around, and of course, him ,the leporinus and the RTBshark all chose the same spot and scuffled over hit

he eats FD krill from my hand now

Hi, i have some info for you all. Several years ago i had a community tank with some cichlids in it that were brother/sister and they decided to spawn on two occations. They would lay about 150-200 eggs at a time and about 10 out of that batch would have the same mouth as your fish. The mouth deformity is likely from inbreeding. The mouth can also be "twisted" in its shape and also have a small lopsided lip opening. I did have a male and female acei , the male appeared normal in everyway but the female had a slightly rounded face and lips, not deformed exactly but rounded and less defined (pointy )mouth area.

I have a yellow lab that "snuck into the bag" from petco and it has the severe version of this type of mouth deformity. Here is a couple pics of it. The pics are not the best quality since he is so bright yellow it tends to be hard to get definition when i photograph it. It does give a general idea of what it looks like.
