Anyone know what this is?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Don’t worry - it’s nothing to panic about. It probably just means your over feeding a bit, everyone is guilty of that at some point.

Just keep an eye on your fish when they’re eating, don’t drop it in and walk away or anything. Use the old “if they didn’t eat it in 2-3 minutes it’s too much” rule. Make sure you gravel vac the substrate.
Ok cool thanks thats kinda what i was doing (panicking) i have a bad habbit of over feeding in a new tank and right after a water change. I get worried idk why. But youre 100% right

Just remember a fish can go upto a couple weeks without eating and still be fine "normaly". So feeding light can actually be better for the fishes health over all rather then over feeding. Lol trust me tho your not the only one who over feeds, I'm guilty of it myself more often then I'd like to admit. Usually a good rule of thumb is only feed as much as the fish can eat in under 2 mins. With a bunch of plecos I'd feed just a few algea waffers at a time and only every other day to keep them hungry enough to graze.

Got any scavengers in the tank? If not I would recommend getting a rapheal cat, you probably won't see if for a month at a time but they do a good job cleaning up left overs at night.

Im not sure. If i had to guess, i have 3 geos (redstripe eartheater) would those count? They seem to eat off the bottom kinda

Ah i didn’t realize he said they were all plecos. My fault there.
Theyre not all plecos, i have 1 ebjd, 2abf, 2akf, 3geo(now), 1 bristlenose, 1 phantom pleco. I just seriously over fed the plecos w the waffers so i assumed it was from that

Would a 60gal tank be big enough for thAt kinda fish? Or is there a smaller version raphael cat

Spotted raphaels tend to Max out around 5-6in while stripped Raphael's tend to Max out at 7-8in. Giant Raphael's can get over 2ft so I'd definitely stay away from the Giants. For a 60g I'd do maybe 1-2 spotted or just a striped. Just know tho the Raphael catfish will hide all day long, they strictly come out at night when all the lights are off so ya probably won't see it for months at a time. That and since they like to hide so much they need somewhere in the tank, like a cave, to hide inside and not be exposed to light. O also a word of warning, don't use nets on em and be extremely careful when taking them out by hand as their fins are built like razor blades.

Had one spotted and striped at one point myself and when I first got them they straight up disappeared for over 4 months before they finally showed themselves again. Never had problems tho with fish picking on them with all that armour plating the have along with their double edged fins. They won't take care of all of the leftovers but they definitely do help.
