My daughter had a red eared slider and when its tank needed replaced she put it in with some of african fry in my large fry tank, it tried unsuccessfully to catch and eat them the whole week it was in there. I would agree with what people have said so far, turtles and fish dont mix, fish are their food along with bugs and creepy crawly in the wild, get a seperate tank for it if you really want one. :)

turtles and africans dont mix. i would get a seperate tank for just turtles-which would look really cool anyways by themselves!

I keep mine separate. I have put in some cons with my turtles. I was tarring down some tanks in my classroom and tossed them in while i was moving things around to go home for the summer. By the time I was done, I had fat happy turtles and no cons..

yea, the store said if I came back with any or fry they would kill me and feed me to the attic raccoons...

I have though of raising some cons for the turtles to eat for treats!

I cull my African hybids by putting them in my daughter's Western Painted Turtle tank. We feed her (him, I am convinced its a male, but she named it Shelly) a reptomin, the fish come up to eat the reptomin, she eats a fish. Again, great stimulation for the turtle. Not so much for the hybrids.

I just bought some cons. Maybe I will share some fry. I bought three, found one dead a day later and a big hole in the sand with the female wanting to get busy.

Turtles are pretty messy.... A tank by them selves w/a few Cons is ideal for them. I have a Eastern Painted w/a Female Ps. Cabro. She cleans up after him quite well. Goldfish culls from my pond make for nice treats for both.
