Anyone knows how to ID "Mekong Giant catfish" juvi?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Most catfish in asia have some form of teeth or a rough patch in the mouth etc, mekong giants dont its 100% smooth, thats how i tell them apart from the rest in thailand

I'm fairly certain the video I posted in the other similar thread was a mekong catfish. It looks almost.... Almost..... Identical to an ID catfish. This was right before a bunch of black ears came into southern California. Both were being sold as paroons.

If the Singapore River Safari got their ID right, one can see Mekong Giant Catfish MGC in TL's video, 4:00 min to 5:40 min:

Summary of differences of MGC or MGC x IDS hybrid --- versus --- IDS on the basis of the GFK's thread above:

(1) thumb cranial profile, pronounced shoulder
(2) shorter, wider, stubier head
(3) square mouth, bigger than IDS
(4) lower sitting eyes vs IDS
(5) different dorsal fin shape
(6) different caudal fin shape
