Anyone Off-Road?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sweet! looks like you had a great labor day Jose! Great pics! I woulda said that thing is too pretty to wheel!

Thanks :) I bought this thing strictly as my camping/hunting/off-road/excursion rig. There's no way I can make her a mall cruiser :D

I was allways the "safty truck" when the boys went muddin. I had a HUGE 4 door lifted f150. Sadly I was small compared to the boys mudding toys (they all drove cars around the city tho! lol) So I sat at the side of the pits with chains waiting to drag em out when stuck... Alot quicker then having to position another mud truck get everything out ect. Was easier just for me to park off to the side lol... That truck was awsome to tow the boat with. Sadly had to sell it to go back to school. Last year then rebuilding another truck!

I love off roading!!! but I have not been able to do it for some time..traded in my old jeep for a little convertible about 5 years ago..

BUT i just picked up another jeep @.@ it needs some work but im very happy with it.. its an 88 laredo 4.0 straight 6 ..already tracked down the oil leak ..fixing an exhaust leak and a few minor cosmetic things..new shocks to come next

sooo happy with this! ^_^

noice! is all that flex stock?

noice! is all that flex stock?

Thanks! Sure is :) All it has is a 3.5" lift springs and an adjustable panhard rod in the front...on 35s. I eventually plan on going with a 6" lift and 37s.

In related news, here's what I did this past weekend, custom interior winch controls. I have a 12,000lb winch sitting in my living room while my front bumper is getting built. Figured I'd get a head start on this little project

Killer! One my buddies was into toyotas, I couldn't believe the flex he could get out of his Tacos. You gonna upgrade the axles and gears too when you go up to 37s? If you wheel hard, you'll probably see some snappage if you dont...

Nice job on the winch controls, I love the "hot" light...

Thanks :)

Gearing, yes. Stock is 4.11 so I'll be going down to a 5.29 ratio when I go to the 37s. As far as axles go, FJ80s are way overbuilt from the factory. Guys run stock components with 40" tires and wheel them pretty hard with no issues. The only real weak link is the Birfield cv joint up front. If I get serious enough, I'd probably switch them out to some chromoly Birfields for better protection.

This is what I'd like it to look like eventually:

37s

Yeah, I forgot your years came with a sweety sweet solid front axle...

I dig the safari look of that one on the 38's, pretty much the way I was building my Land Rover back in the day.

This past weekend we ran the SlickRock Trail @ Lake Alpine, CA. It was my first 'real' trail, rated as a moderately difficult trail. It was pretty intense. Nice starter trail I'd say. Here's a video of me doing The Staircase, which is the last major obstacle. It took me so long since I was a little nervous. Maybe next time I can try it without a spotter :)

Endured a bit of trail damage, nothing serious. Fender flare got torn off so I de-flared the whole thing and I'm having the holes welded up, and will repaint the truck. It looks a lot meaner without the flares! And you'll notice I got some new wheels. Finally ditched the fugly mall-cruiser wheels.
