Hello
Anyone raise earthworms for fishing? .

I had a plastic bin ,holes drilled in lid, soil ,shredded paper as my bin set up .

Food was left over vegetables ,fruit . Misted top layer of soil to keep it moist.

I kept the bin in my garage . Worms were African earthworms ,garage temp was 80s .

Worms got huge looked great but didnt get a single baby after 2 months than used them for fishing .

Ordered more to try it again but anyone have any input, ideas?

Thanks

whats an african earthworm. they already sound cool lol. i wish you had a picture hah. good luck next time tho

its just an earthworm that does well in heat thats why ESP in Miami used those but didnt get any baby worms and wound up using them all for fishing lol

Work great just wish I could reproduce them imagine someone here must have raised worms

hmmmm. maybe u should research them to see if any hot/cold changes affect breeding

I thought you just cut them in half to get more? :D :screwy: :ROFL::ROFL:

If you cut them in half the part with the head may regenerate sometimes it doesnt and you than can use the rear as bait but it stops wiggling after a few minutes and thats a big part of attracting fish.

Ofcourse sunfish will hit it as will catfish, etc but it wont attract cichlids, etc that zoom in on moving bait

I even caught small peacock bass with the earthworms they are great bait but not talipia nor oscars. Oh well

I have tried africans to but no luck. I think that they are not as good as the company might imply. I also tried europeans but no luck. I think that I will just try regular red worms because they worked for me in the past. They can get preety thick to if fed right.

I'm trying red worms right now. May be to little for fishing but perfect size for feeding cichlids. I just bought a 1000 for 15.00. so I'll tell you how it goes.

Thanks what is your worm bin like ?

mine is shredded paper, cardboard and 60% soil kept moist with fruit and scaps added once eaten.

so far my new batch alive and great havent used them though will take some this weekend my last batch did great to but never bred that was my problem.
