Sorry,
FYI , I have 2 of them, of size ~10" and 6"+

i had 1 that was 4-5"
gave it to lfs in trade for the 4 peices of drift wood
2 in 30G
1 in 75
1 in 55 gator tank

I have kept a few in the pat myself, but they always seem to die..Don't seem to do very well even with semi-aggressive Tiger Datnoids. I hear they reach a certain size, and then die. U guys hear the same thing? I would love a 30" Payara. Very impressive looking, though very boring to keep.

Yes, someone in predatoryfish said they wouldnt get pass 12" in captivity due to the "high oxygen" demand for adult fishes (need strong flowing water , highly oxygenated)
In addithion, their grow rate are very slow, I got mine from 4~5" too, and have been keeping them for 1 yr + coming to 2 yrs. They only feed on live feeder, eg small koi/goldfish, red fish, platly etc.
My bigger one is close to 10" and smaller abt 6"+, although I bought them from abt the same size.

I also would like to see this 18" Payara. Never seen one past 14". I believe there are 4 types of Payara that's floating around the hobby. I am told the sp. from Venezuela are the ones that get the biggest. I am not sure though, I have not been successful in growing one past 8". The last one I had became a victom to an unusually aggressive silver arow about 5 years ago.
