Anyone running large tanks with sponge filters? What can you tell me about the sponge filter your using? Size, brand, where you bought it (ebay maybe)? How do you power it (power head or pump)?
Thanks

looking at the hydro pro brand.Still interested to see/hear people with sponge filter only setups on large tanks.

not exactly large tank but i use 2x of the largest hydro-sponger pro for my 40g armatus off live tank

I use 2 triple stacked hydro V sponge filters powered by air on one of my big tanks (bought it off the internet). They do a great job but need to be cleaned every two weeks at the least (I rotate cleaning one every week). It is very messy... But they are not the only filters on the tank. Take a look at matten corner sponge filters. If I were running just sponge filtration. I would opt for those.

The matten filters are great and may out perform the sponges but only down side is if your tank is already set up and installation may take a bit longer even on a new tank set up

good stuff thanks for everyones input. I looked at the corner filter type. Im not sure how much better it might actually be. I also like the idea that coventional sponge filters can be moved around easily.

I run corner matten filters, bought them from Swiss Tropicals. I use a 1744 GPH air pump by elemental, very loud and will be changing it soon, I'm able to run two jet lifters per tank behind the sponges on three tanks which are two 265's and one 265. The other 220 is on other side of the basement and on it's own air pump otherwise I would have it on the other air pump as well. I also run this setup on my 75.
