I dont believe they are dangerous. In the river monsters episode he swam under water with a bunch of them and they didnt even look at him and they all appeared to be around the 6' mark or so.

They are dangerous. Their scales alone can cause injury. But dont expect them to attack every moving thing they see.

Alligator gar are not dangerous. They are not man eaters and I wouldn't be afraid of one. If you watched river mosnters you would also note they said the attacker was "unidentified". There are no kown offical documented attacks of a gator gar on a human in the United States. They are harmless. They have ganoid scarles which act like chainmeal which is why nothing really botheres them because its tough to get through. Yes they do have sharp teeth - did you know a lot of fish have sharp teeth but that doesn't mean they will attack and hurt you. You can jump in the water with them (they are found in springs/rivers here in Florida, I ve been around them plenty of times) and they will not care, they wont even look at you. If you were to get close they stay still or swim away.

Its not common to find one in the 10ft range anymore usually 6-7ft sometimes 8ft -however the largest one of record was 10feet and caught I think in Texas or Lousiana (I can't remember and I could be wrong) They are protected in most places they are found currently.
