They are different breeds.

No they are actually different species. Breeds are within the same species.

Oh and last time I checked, color is a physical characteristic. ;)

:agreed:

They are different species, thus different scientific names.
THe ones with the different breeds are asians. All belonging to scleropages formosus.

:screwy: whoops:ROFL: anyhow, I meant species.....

Wait, isn't interbreeding is possible among different species of the same genus? Blacks and Silvers are both species of the genus "Osteoglossum" (spelling could be wrong). Think of cichlids that interbreed, for instance hybrids produced from Amphilosus Trimaculatus & Amphilosus Citrinellum.

Which is why I made this post......IF I had a large pond, I would stock it full of silver and blacks to try and bred these guys. I'm sure that you COULD run into a hybrid. JUST A POSSIBILITY. Enough with the "what if's" from me and my pond

i think it's possible.....i don't think it would be anything special though...prolly just look like a regular silver with darker coloring.......

I'd be more interested in a jardini asian cross, and from what you guys have said above, it's possible as they share the same genus, scleropages.

Maybe I could get it in my tank... ;)
