anyone seen/know about a uv like this?? "pics"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've seen plans for similar units only they are based on 48" tubes. Everythings available at your local home improvement place. I saw the plans posted on a pond website.
Another source of UV bulbs is the reptile section of the pet supermarts.

just opened it up.
no markings what so ever on the bulb. :screwy:
the bulb fits through the rubber pieces then when you tighten it down it squeezes it tight.
"im guessing"
the bulb looks like it has the metal coils inside on both ends but dont connect from side to side.
"not sure if thats normal" lol

Not a tan, but you would be looking for a seeing-eye dog if left on for very long.

You got it right on the seals.

By the way UV-C will break down silicone :( , at close range.

The lamp is a germicidal UV-C bulb, works similar to a fluorescent bulb , just change the gas and remove the fluorescent coating.

I've haven't seen a lamp like this in public sale in 20yrs. They really want you to know what your doing with them. Fixtures had safety switches to shut the lamp off before you could see it.

Doesn't look like it was changed since then .

Maybe a tanning bed bulb would work? dunno if they come in 3' lengths though

Thats a T-5 UV-C bulb. It looks like a 30 Watt lamp. The ballast is oversized and using it would increase the output of the lamp but would cause overheating at the ends and drastically shorten the life of the lamp.

Try to find the correct ballast or verify from the lamp manufacturer that you can use this ballast. Be very careful working with this fixture, discharge lighting ballasts are very dangerous. They are basically transformers that produce a very high starting voltage (measured in kilo-volts) until the lamp lights and then produce a lower voltage at a higher current to sustain the illumination in the lamp. If the lamp doesn't fire, the ballast continues to put out a high voltage. Dont handle it when its live.

Using it outside is a risky business without adequate groundfault protection on the branch circuit that feeds it.

Those are UV-B and are like 100w :D, but good try.

Does the white tape come off of the ballast midnight? All I can read is 48" /25w.

You could put it on your Xmas list if it's not too long already .
