Anyone spawn spectabilis??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't think your dithers would post much of a threat towards them just like silver dollars etc but do you have any other cichlids with them? I have a bunch of Midas that I can afford to use along with a group of SD's

Specs are the only cichlids in the tank. From my research on them, they come from low flow water. My tank might have 'too' much flow. But they seem to be happy. Once they get to sexual maturity, I'll try and mimic their habitat as much as possible.

Are you getting wild ones? I tried to get Wild ones, but they didnt make the trek across the country. (Mine are F1 from Rapps)

I think it will be interesting to see how everyone's turns out. I'm tossing different ideas around on what I wanna do with my set ups. I've got a friend already runnin an RO system so I'm gonna start with my normal set ups and possible move into a biotope.
Yes I bought a wild pair and a dozen of the f1's from Rapps. I'm hoping ill see different results in behavior, growth, and and color comparing wild vs domesticated

I have a feeling that those of you raising the F1's will have better luck than those of us with wilds. Just a feeling :)

I hope these all come thru easier than what we've heard:/ I'm looking into some from another source and hoping they're not from same importer... Ill let u know when I hear back

The conspecific aggression in these guys is unreal.

I've spawned the fish...easy to spawn just keep the temperature up and lots of protein. I'll have babies in a few weeks and I have 6 males and 4 females in my group.

Also, pull the eggs cause they are not the best parents and they like to eat their babies after a few days if you don't pull.

I've heard that specs like to breed in soft(er) water. That's what I've read at least. My water is 7.8 right out of the tap.

Knowing what I know about your set up, I highly doubt there are very many species that you haven't spawned that you've put much effort into.
