Anyone try LED christmas lights for their tank?

Has anyone tried to use LED Christmas lights as a supplement to fluorescent or other lighting? I like my new Xenon setup, but I would like to add a white light to help bring out the fish colours without brightening the overall tank too much (if that makes sense). And since I’m a cheap DIY’er I was wondering if a LED Christmas light string would work (cut to appropriate size).
Anyone ever try this? If not, I will post results when I get my hands on some (really should’ve thought of this 2 months ago….).

Never thought of it, but it could work. I'd get the indoor-outdoor ones to minimize the effect of the humidity being on the tank. Now that you mention it I think it would be cool to use them as night lighting instead of those blue moonlights.

hmm interesting! try it and let me know if it works, cause i got several hundred christmas LED lights that i could use. maybe ill make a full LED light fixture. I have a total of 600 LED's that use about 36 watts total

Just made my own top and got some led lights and put them in there, pretty easy and looked great at night

Did you use these as "moon lights" or were they your only source of lighting? how did you attach the LEDs to your top?
