Anyone try LED christmas lights for their tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They are outdoor lights and I have had people come over and thought I bought moon lighting. If you could see them in person you would never know and not everyone can afford the real thing

My thoughts exactly... just trim the string to size, remove unneeded bulbs, and voila.

the blue lighting looks great btw! Kind of like an eery cave...

Yeah moon lights for aquarium are way overpriced. $15 for 2 LED's - go fly a kite!!! I got 60 christmas LEDs for $7 at walmart. That seems like a good deal for a little extra work

go for it. im trying to find a way to fit a light through a .5 millimeter space. i might have to go with a submersible light instead. check this out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5Ffaw4HU0I im still waiting for his response on custom size. the other link that another member posted also seems good. search up the product on google nad it will link to his ebay page. 40 dollars for a 47 inch though.

Does anyone sell less than 60 led's in a pack. I went to meijer today and they have the 50-60 packs but those run 20ft and +. That's WAY more than what I need, unless I could cut it in half and use it for both tanks but i'm not really sure how I would go about doing that. Does anyone sell like 10ft of christmas light blue led's???

i do believe that menards had some 10ish foot led "rope lights" in with all the Christmas stuff

Yea, I only need it for a 90 gallon so I think 3 of them might be overkill. Do you think one would be sufficient? That 8 wire supply jack seems like a bit of overkill if I only plan on running one of those 3 led lights. I'm wondering if I could take an older 12 volt power supply cord and cut/splice/soider it into the new led wire and call it good. Of course I would cover this in electrical heat wrap. What do you all think? I'm looking at less than $10 if it works as planned, $8.49 to be exact.
