Yea, I only need it for a 90 gallon so I think 3 of them might be overkill. Do you think one would be sufficient? That 8 wire supply jack seems like a bit of overkill if I only plan on running one of those 3 led lights. I'm wondering if I could take an older 12 volt power supply cord and cut/splice/soider it into the new led wire and call it good. Of course I would cover this in electrical heat wrap. What do you all think? I'm looking at less than $10 if it works as planned, $8.49 to be exact.

How long is the tank? I think I'd go with 2.
There is another option. I use a screw in type bulb that has, I think 18 blue led's. It screws into a normal light socket. I have one mounted on each side of my 55, in the canopy. http://cgi.ebay.com/4-x-110V-AC-Screw-in-18-LED-Light-Bulb-Various-Colors_W0QQitemZ250315333356QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item250315333356&_trkparms=72%3A1234%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14
(That price is for 4 bulbs)
They just don't last as long and it's a bit harder to place them. You have to have a canopy to mount them.

Here is my 55 with the screw in led's. Keep in mind that it's not as bright as it looks in the pic. My cameras shutter speed gets super slow with the flash off.

Yea, that looks really cool. The problem is that I dont have a canopy for my tank. So a couple options are to drill a small hole through the glass at the top to run the wire through and then remove the cover on the topside of the led so I can stick it to the underside of the glass (since it's waterproof). I suppose I could do this with two different ones but I was thinking that one would be more than enough, maybe not. My other option was to find about 10ft of christmas light led's, remove the bulbs that would night be concealed in the light cover, drill a small hole in the light cover, and run the lights inside of that to conceal them.

just buy a pack of 100 blue 5mm led's on ebay and get a 12 volt power adaptor and a usb hub im using this setup to run cooling fans and moonlights will post pics tonight when i get home from work with my 2 newly made led light strips for my 55 reef

you can do a chiller/ moonlight setup for about $50 with the above mentioned items as well as have expandability with the hub PM me for more details and directions or whare to get the parts

The ones I have on my 125 are the dome light ones (3 Led's) each. I don't have them affixed to anything. They are just laying on the glass tops pointing down. I'll get a pic..... I have to re-boot,,, it's not reading my memory stick....

Here are the ones on my 125. I only have 3 on there & it does the trick but I'm going to order one more for it when I order the ones for my double decker cabinet. You can put them anywhere you want on the top glass (where ever they'll fit). And you can somewhat aim them. Much cheaper than $50.

I agree, much cheaper than $50! I was thinking about removing that red cover part and placing them on the underside of the glass though and drilling a hole small enough for it to fit through (not sure if it would work). Do you think it would stick well enough to the underside of the glass without falling in. I'll probably only get one shot at it because if it falls into the water that would most likely remove the stickiness. I might have to go with two of the tripple led fixtures and run one of those jumpers for $2.99, then find a 12 volt somewhere around the house to plug into it. That's exactly what i'm thinking about doing though. If I were you I would probably mount the 8 wire jumper underneath of the tank to conseal some of the wiring, make it look neater. I'm sort've a neat freak though.

well seeing as 50 is too much for you guys ill just keep my pics and info to myself

Dude,, it's not about $50 being too much, It's about why spend $50 if you don't need to. Do you realize how childish that sounded? Go ahead and keep your pics to yourself. LOL

No one has said that any idea was better than yours, just cheaper. Show him your pics,,, he may like it better and splurge. It’s all about sharing ideas and choosing what they like best and or can afford.
