Anyone use a sieve filter on the aquariums?

Do you see a substantial amount of waste material being removed from the water column on the sieve screen?

Based on your experience so far, would you repeat going the sieve route over something more conventional like filter socks?
 
Yes the sieve takes out quite a bit of waste. I would definitely not do socks, this is much less maintenance which was my goal of doing it this way.
