Anyone use seine or castnets to fill your tank? I'm trying to set up a native tank here but the shops dont stock any natives, so I think I'm gonna have to catch them...

Can 1 person use a seine, or am I stuck with a castnet?

well you could fish with a barbless hook. one person is probly a no no. gl though.

I've stocked tanks with about every method imaginable. Seines are by far the easiest on the fish. Cast nets cause slime coat/skin damage, and many fish caught in cast nets end up with infections. Some are more susceptible than others.

Find a buddy, and go get them with a seine. Three people with a seine is ideal, because then you can have a bucket person follow behind. Minnow traps work well, too.

search went out netting
also my nets thread is in the photo lounge
seine can be done one person
drive one side in the shallows
walk out around and the back,in a circle then drag on land
cast nets work
shrimp nets are very good,2' net on a 6 or 8 foot pole,i use this the most
catch with a rod also works
make sure to check laws on each fish you want
some fish cant be caught in nets but can on rod and reel.
pm me if you need more tips

I like those shrimp nets...but things are a bit weird in the UK...if i wanted a net for my trawler then no probs, but if I want one to use from the beach, thats hard to find! Especially if you want fine mesh.

If you use a net in freshwater here you get dragged to a shallow grave and shot (all the tourist moneys from flycatching salmon/trout) but the seas fair game..take what you want, how you want! I'd love to seine but most of the coast here is real rocky with a STEEP drop off...there are places you can be 10m out and +100m depth!!!

I read you posts midnight...your my hero. I copied your pond and now i want to copy your netting...imitation is the highest form of flattery...

ya that sounds hard to net in.lol
if you cant net, next best thing is,
fish for small stuff.
use small line, tiny hooks, and small bait.
with this you can catch like one or 2 inch fish. :)
